Birdwatching in South Australia (SA)
Close to the city
Adelaide Botanic Garden
Nestled near the CBD and spanning 50 hectares, the Botanic Garden is a unique urban habitat containing wetlands, open lawns, and a large variety of plants, providing an important sanctuary for wildlife. Over 50 species of birds regularly visit the gardens and as many as 100 species have been observed. As you walk slowly through the different terrains, watch out for a range of waterbirds (like Hardhead ducks), small birds of prey (like the Australian Hobby), and parrot friends (like the Musk Lorikeet).
Road trip
Flinders Rangers
Five hour’s drive north of Adelaide is an amazing arid landscape. Driving through the Flinders Ranges and Outback, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were navigating the unexplored face of Mars. Towering ancient cliffs and deep craters border dusty red roads. Here, you might spot the stunning Pink Cockatoo with its vibrant pink and white plumage. Additionally, keep an eye out for the elusive Black-eared Cuckoo, a master of camouflage in this habitat.
